We are affiliated with Paoli hospital, Chester County’s only trauma center, where we do all of our deliveries and surgeries. There is always an anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, trauma surgeon and neonatology specialist in the hospital. In addition, on weekends and after 5 PM on weekdays, there is always one of the Ob/Gyn doctors on staff at the hospital.
Paoli Hospital is part of the Main Line Health System which also includes Lankenau and Bryn Mawr Hospitals.
These affiliations provide you with easy access to many excellent specialist, sub-specialist and primary care physicians as well as to the latest emergency and radiology services.
The Family Centered Maternity Unit at Paoli Hospital (FCMU)
The FCMU is a beautiful, quiet, well-designed, comforting birthing environment staffed with a cohort of genuinely dedicated, skilled and thoughtful nurses. On average, 2300 babies are delivered in our unit every year. The Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been rebuilt and expanded to accommodate babies born at 32 weeks and beyond.
The FCMU staff makes both immediate skin to skin contact with your newborn and breast feeding high priorities. The lactation consultant is available on a daily basis. Gentle C-section deliveries that allow you to view the actual delivery of the baby through a clear drape and/or have skin to skin contact with your newborn shortly after the delivery is also available on request.
The Main Line Perinatal Associates provide consultation for patients with high risk pregnancies.
They have offices in West Chester, Oaks, and at the Paoli, Bryn Mawr, Lankenau and Riddle hospitals.
If you need to deliver before 32 weeks gestation, and you and your baby/babies are stable for transfer, you will be sent to Lankenau Hospital for the delivery. Your care there will be provided by the Perinatologists (also known as Maternal-Fetal Medicine or MFM subspecialists) and the care for your newborns will be given in Lankenau’s Level III NICU.
